patrick stewart in a bathing suit: hourly comics day 2009
I am really late in posting these. Sunday was Hourly Comics Day, and I only now had enough time to scan stuff (yesterday I was away from the house from pretty much 8:30am-1:30am straight). When I started doing hourly comics was the same year I decided to grow my hair out, so you can see it getting longer in each year's comics! Here: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. Sadly I don't think my shorthand drawing style has improved in 4 years! My excuse this year is that my pen was running out and once again I foolishly opted for 3-panel hours.

There are a lot of pretty fricken awesome comics that were made on the 1st, you should check out the forum if you haven't already.

So: some comics!

Thank you! Want to know a secret? The original watercolours were way more green but I didn't like how it looked so I fiddled around with the hue a bit.

That is a lot of little panels (on top of the pile of art you were doing all day!) Busy lady! I love the drawer within a drawer withing a drawer.

Next year I should probably scale it back a bit. Every year when I finish them I'm like, "why did I do 3 panels, again?", but then I just keep doing it! The regret usually sets in during the third hour.

It is my fondest dream! I have a feeling only professional actors get those kind of gigs, though. And also I think I would be too nervous to let anyone other than my siblings listen to it, hahaha!

Yaaaaaay! Yours are so wonderful! Screenprinting is so fun and so upsetting at the same time.

I know just what you mean! I am trying to get the hang of screenprinting by just doing it a lot.

Oh wow, these are so good!

My favorite is your inking set up on the floor! That's seriously one of the most satisfying ways to work, especially for hardcore, no holds barred inking.

It's the only way I can set up my animation table and actually work on it! After intensive drawing sessions it really hurts, though.

It's too bad you're across the country now, I miss picking up your new comics up at Heritage Hall every few months.

Sometimes I think it's awesome that Canada is so big, and sometimes I just wish it was small enough that I could afford to fly back to Vancouver often and visit.

I always love these hourly comics. This one is no exception!

Slightly creepy: I was working on a song today (not mine, real work) with the line "your love is the snow that's falling slowly". I was just singing that line in my head as I read the words "the snow is falling slowly" in your first comic! I CAN'T ESCAPE

Wasn't my song, I was at work! (however, it is a song by a guy you know who used to be in a band that rhymes with...uh...Mole Crossing. I'm guessing the record will be out around the fall.)

hahaha, sorry, I somehow totally forgot about the "(not mine, real work)" clause by the time I started typing. Where is my brain? I guess I still can't wait to hear the song, but in a different way.

eeeeeee! :) eeeeeee, I say! This is more awesome than I could have possibly predicted. Especially because of how COOL we look in eye, ear and backwards RAIN protection!

P.S. I have now seen this purported flowers + dreads photo! Also AWESOME!

Aaaah! You have a livejournal! I'm glad you like it -- I wished that I could have included your comment about the eye protection in the power washer hour, that would have made it even better!

an oxberry...soooo jealous.

our animation set-up consists of a super 8/10 year old digital still on a tripod head duct taped to the side of a table and a piece of paper matching the frame taped to the floor.

but it works.

those are lovely animations!
yeah, I was lucky enough to get involved with the Atlantic Filmmaker's Co-op here and use their awesome animation room (which apparently is only used very rarely, which makes me sad)...your set-up sounds exactly like the one I have for line-testing and digital shoots -- sometimes sketchy set-ups are the best way to go, though!

looks great.... why baby oil? why not just get transparent paper/plastic? I can also imagine after 24 hours the creativity gets a little sketchy!

You can definitely print onto transparencies, but sometimes the black parts are a little faded/let light through a bit if you do it that way.
